Getting startedWhat MatchFlow is, setting up, and where it runs.
What is MatchFlow, and is it a dating app?
MatchFlow is a friend finder. You build a profile around what you are into, Discover shows you people who share it, and a chat opens once you have both said yes. It is not a dating app and not random stranger chat: nobody can start a private conversation with you until you accept.
How do I set up my profile?
The first time you sign in, a short setup asks for your birthday, at least three interests, who you would like to meet and, optionally, where you are from and two colours for your theme. Everything can be changed later under Settings → Profile. Your birthday is the one thing that is fixed after sign-up.
Can I change my birthday?
No. Your date of birth sets the age group you match in and the safety rules that apply to your account, so it cannot be edited from the app. If it was entered incorrectly, email support from the address on your account.
What is FreeWorlds?
FreeWorlds is MatchFlow's free virtual world, played in your browser: make an avatar, get a home of your own and hang out with the people you meet here. It was called MatchFlow World until it moved to its own site, freeworlds.gg. It uses your MatchFlow account, with the same friends list and blocks, and Hang out in World in a chat invites someone straight to your place. World's own guides explain how everything in it works.
Do I need the app, or does the website work too?
Both work with the same account. The website is matchflow.gg on any browser and can be installed to your home screen from Settings → Notifications & app. The Android app on Google Play adds push notifications and is for members aged 18 and over; under-18 members use the website.
Matching and DiscoverHow people are picked for you and what the score means.
How does matching work?
Discover scores every pair from both sides: shared interests (weighted by how specific they are), what each of you wants from a friendship, how you like to talk, when you are usually around and the languages you share. The people at the top are the ones you have the most in common with, not the ones who are most popular.
Why do I see the same people, or nobody new, today?
Discover builds a fresh set of cards once a day from members who have been active recently, and keeps that set stable until tomorrow so a reload does not shuffle it. Someone you have already hearted, passed or chatted with does not come back. The New tab shows only the people you have not been shown before.
What does the match percentage mean?
It is how much of your profile lines up with theirs, from both directions. The card also tells you why — the interests, goals or languages you share — so you can decide before you say hello. 80% and above is a strong fit; it is also a threshold you can use to limit who may message you.
How do I improve my matches?
Add more interests, and pick the specific ones: “indie games” says more than “gaming”. Fill in friendship goals, communication style, availability and languages under Settings → Profile and Preferences. The Improve your matches card on Discover points at what is still missing.
Requests, chats and friendsThe heart, message requests, friends and editing.
What happens when I tap the heart?
It sends a match request. They see it in their bell and can accept or decline; if they had already hearted you, the chat opens straight away. Nothing else is sent, and passing (✕) simply hides the person from your Discover.
Can someone message me before I accept?
Only as a request. A new person can send you one message request; you see it in your bell and nothing more arrives until you accept. Under Settings → Privacy → Who can message you you can limit requests to friends only or to people with 80%+ compatibility.
How are friends different from matches?
A match is a request that both of you accepted; it opens a private chat. Friends are people you have saved: open someone's profile and tap Add Friend, and once they accept you both appear in each other's Friends list under Chats. You can be friends without having a chat open, and unfriend from the same button.
Can I edit or delete a message?
You can edit your own messages: tap the pencil on the message, choose Edit from its menu on a phone, or press the up arrow in an empty composer to reopen your last one. Edited messages show an “(edited)” tag. Deleting is not available yet; if a message is a safety problem, report it and we will take it down.
Who can see my profile?
Signed-in members in your age group who appear in Discover with you, plus anyone you chat with. Blocked members never see it. Under Settings → Privacy you choose whether your online status, last active time and age group are shown; social links stay private until you add them.
Community and voiceChannels, voice, Watch Together, Layla and levels.
What are the community channels?
Community is a set of topic rooms everyone in your age group shares: Main chat, Anime & Games, Art & Creations, Travel and Tech & Coding, plus Vent and Advice for support. Those last two ask you to agree to their extra rules before you can read or post, because people share difficult things there.
How do voice calls and voice channels work?
Voice calls are between friends: add the person first, then call from the phone icon at the top of your chat. Community voice channels are listed beside the text channels and open to everyone in your age group. Your device asks for microphone permission the first time. Voice is audio only and is not recorded.
What is Watch Together?
A way to watch a YouTube video in sync inside a private chat. Paste a link, start a session, and play, pause and seek are shared with the other person while you keep chatting underneath.
Who is Layla, and can I turn her off?
Layla is MatchFlow's AI community host. She only joins in for members who have turned her on, and when she does, a few recent community messages are sent to a third-party AI provider to write her reply. The switch is under Settings → Privacy & Safety → AI features; turning it off never turns off the safety checks.
How do levels and the leaderboard work?
Talking earns XP — in the community rooms and in your private chats — and XP adds up to levels with a badge beside your name. The leaderboard in Community shows who is most active. Editing a message earns nothing, and spamming to climb is against the guidelines.
Safety and reportingReporting, blocking, and why something was not sent.
How do I report someone?
Open the ⋯ menu on their profile, their message or their community post and choose Report. Pick a category — harassment, spam, sexual content, impersonation, a self-harm concern, child safety and more — and add what happened. Child-safety reports go to the top of the queue. The person is not told who reported them.
How do I block someone, and what does it hide?
Choose Block from the same ⋯ menu. From that moment you disappear from each other: no messages, no requests, no profile, and neither of you appears in the other's Discover. Your blocked list lives under Settings → Privacy & Safety, where you can unblock.
Why was my message or photo not sent?
Every message, post, profile change and photo is checked before it is published, and anything that may break the Community Guidelines is stopped with a note saying so. If you see “we couldn't send this right now”, the check itself was unavailable for a moment — nothing goes out unchecked, so try again shortly. You can ask about a decision through support.
Where are the safety tips and the rules?
The safety tips cover what to share, meeting offline and what to do when something feels wrong. The Community Guidelines are the rules every member agrees to. Our child safety standards explain what is prohibited and how we act on it.
Notifications, account and privacyAlerts, installing, colours, and deleting your account.
How do I turn notifications on or off?
Under Settings → Notifications & app. Notifications and Sounds follow your account everywhere. Push notifications depend on where you are: on the website, the switch only affects the browser you are holding; in the Android app, it mutes push for your whole account — every phone and browser — until you turn it back on. Muting a person silences them without blocking.
How do I install MatchFlow on my phone?
On Android, install MatchFlow: Make Friends from Google Play (18+). On any phone, open matchflow.gg and use Settings → Notifications & app → Install to add it to your home screen as a full-screen app with push notifications.
How do I change my colours?
Under Settings → Profile → Theme. Pick up to two colours and MatchFlow, your profile and your Discover card are painted in them; other members see your colours on your profile too.
How do I delete my account, and what happens to my posts?
Under Settings → Account → Delete account, or from matchflow.gg/account-deletion without the app. Your profile, chats, photos, requests and notifications are removed. Community posts become “[deleted]” so other people's reply threads do not collapse, and safety records about reports survive so deleting cannot erase an abuse trail. It cannot be undone.
