Where you can farm

Crops grow in beds and fields, and there are two ways to have them:

  • A farm house. The Smallholding, the Homestead and the Country Ranch come with fields, raised beds, a trellis bed and a pen with a feeder, a water trough and a hen house, all ready to use. Open Spaces, choose For sale and walk round them before you buy.
  • Beds from the Shop, for any space you own: the Planting Square (60 gold), the Planting Rows (300 gold), the Cedar Raised Bed (180 gold), the Stone Kitchen Garden Bed (360 gold) and the Trellis Bed (260 gold). Place one like any other piece of furniture.

Climbers: tomatoes and grapes grow only in a Trellis Bed, and a Trellis Bed grows only them.

The Shop in FreeWorlds open on Fun, Make and Grow: animals, watering cans, fertiliser, seeds and the farm's feeders, troughs and hen house, with their prices in gold
Everything for your farm is on one shelf: Fun, then Make & Grow.

Growing crops, step by step

  1. Find somewhere to growA farm house comes with fields and beds ready to sow. In any other space you own, place a bed from the Shop: Fun, then Make & Grow.
  2. Buy seedsSeeds are on the same shelf. A bed takes one seed for each tile it covers, and each crop asks for a Farmer level before you can sow it.
  3. SowClick a bed and choose Sow, then pick a crop. Flat fields lie on the ground and you walk across them: right click one, or press and hold it on a phone, to open its menu.
  4. WaterA crop grows only while it has water. Choose Water when it is thirsty; one watering lasts several hours.
  5. HarvestWhen a crop is ripe, choose Harvest. What you pick goes into your bag, and the bed is ready for the next sowing, or grows again if the crop fruits more than once.
  6. Sell at the MarketOpen Farm at the end of the dock, choose Market and press Sell all on what you want to sell.

Crops and what they pay

Each crop asks for a Farmer level before you can sow it. The higher the level, the more the same work earns. A crop that never goes thirsty gives gold star produce, which sells for half again.

Keeping crops healthy

  • A crop grows in real time, whether you are in FreeWorlds or not, but only while it has water.
  • When it is thirsty it stops growing. Water it within a day and it carries on; after that it withers.
  • A withered crop gives nothing. Choose Clear to dig it out, then sow again.
  • Your friends can water for you while you are away: open Farm and turn on Let my friends water my crops and feed my animals.

Selling at the Market

Farm, at the end of the dock, opens My farm: every crop and animal you have, wherever it is, with how each one is doing and Go there to walk straight to it. Its Market tab buys what your farm makes: press Sell all on anything in your bag.

The Market, with the day's gold left to earn at the top.

The Market buys up to 1,000 gold of your farm a day, and buys again at midnight, FreeWorlds Time. Whatever it doesn't buy today stays in your bag.

Farm animals

Animals are on the same Shop shelf. Hens are yours from the start; the others open as your Rancher level grows. Place an animal like a piece of furniture and it lives there, walking its pen, eating, drinking and sleeping at night.

A pen and its stations

Fences and shut gates make a pen, and a house's door is always shut to animals. On open ground an animal stays within 4 tiles of where you placed it. Whatever it can walk to is its own:

  • Hay Rack Feeder (220 gold): A feeder for the animals of its pen. Fill it with feed and every animal that eats it is fed for a day and a half.
  • Water Trough (160 gold): A trough for the animals of its pen. Fill it and they have water for a day and a half.
  • Nesting Boxes (180 gold): Where the hens and ducks of its pen lay. Collect every egg in the pen here at once.
  • Hen House (900 gold): A hen house with a ramp. The hens of its pen go in to roost at night.
  • Cattle Bay (1,200 gold): A stall for milking. Milk every cow and goat in its pen here at once.
  • Golden Feeder (2,500 gold, Rancher level 12): A gilded feeder that holds three days of feed for the animals of its pen, so they need filling half as often.

Good to know: every animal needs a feeder and a water trough it can reach. Its panel tells you if one is missing.

Feeding, watering and collecting

  1. Click the feeder and choose Fill, then pick a feed. Chicken Feed (2 gold), Hay Bale (4 gold), Pig Feed (3 gold) are in the Shop, and crops you grow feed animals too.
  2. Click the trough and choose Fill with water. It costs nothing.
  3. Each fill lasts a day and a half. While an animal has both food and water, it makes what it gives.
  4. Click an animal to see how it is doing and collect what waits: Collect eggs, Milk, Shear or Dig up truffles. The Nesting Boxes collect every egg in their pen at once, and the Cattle Bay milks every cow and goat.

A hen's panel in FreeWorlds: happy, fed and watered for more than a day, the time to her next egg, her feeds and the energy bar
An animal's panel: how it is doing and when it gives next.

An animal never dies. Left without food or water it stops giving anything and looks hungry, then thin and sad, until somebody feeds it again. One that is never hungry or thirsty between collections gives gold star produce.

Energy

Farm work takes energy, and it shows in every farm panel. You have up to 100. It comes back by itself, 100 an hour, and every meal you eat gives 20 back, up to 100 a day from meals.

Your Farmer and Rancher skills grow with the work: an XP for every energy spent.

Upgrades for higher levels

  • Fertiliser (Farmer level 10, 12 gold a tile): sown with a crop, it gives 1 more of it a tile at every picking.
  • Copper Watering Can (Farmer level 8, 1,500 gold): while it is in your bag, watering takes 20% less energy.
  • Golden Watering Can (Farmer level 20, 6,000 gold): while it is in your bag, watering takes 40% less energy.
  • Golden Feeder (Rancher level 12, 2,500 gold): one fill lasts 3 days.
