What's new

Farming has come to FreeWorlds. There are 15 crops to grow, from lettuce and basil to melons, grapes and precious saffron. Sow them, water them as they grow, pick them when they are ripe and sell what you grow at the Market.

Crops grow in real time, even while you are away, but only while they have water. Everyone who comes by sees how far along each one is, from the first sprout to a field ready to pick.

Farm animals have come too: hens, ducks, goats, sheep, dairy cows and pigs. They wander their pens, eat at the feeder, drink at the trough and sleep at night, and they give eggs, milk, wool and truffles for as long as you look after them.

Farm work takes energy, which comes back by itself, 100 an hour, and when you eat something. The higher your Farmer and Rancher levels, the better the crops and animals you can keep and the more the same work earns, and look after them well and they give gold star produce worth half again.

The farm houses come with fields, beds, feeders and troughs ready to use, and the Shop sells all of them for any space you own.

Step by step

How it works

  1. Get a bedOpen the Shop and look under Fun, then Make & Grow. Choose a Planting Square, Planting Rows, Cedar Raised Bed, Stone Kitchen Garden Bed or Trellis Bed and place it in a space you own. A farm house's fields and beds are ready to sow already.
  2. Buy seedsSeeds are on the same shelf. A bed takes one seed for each tile it covers, and you need the Farmer level a crop asks for to sow it.
  3. SowClick a bed and choose Sow, then pick a crop. Planting Squares and Planting Rows lie flat on the ground and you walk across them, so right click one, or press and hold it on a phone, to open its menu.
  4. WaterChoose Water whenever a crop is thirsty. It stops growing while it is dry, and a crop left dry for a day dies.
  5. Harvest and sellWhen a crop is ripe, choose Harvest and what you pick goes into your bag. Open Farm in the dock, choose Market and press Sell all. The Market buys up to 1,000 gold of your farm a day.
  6. Keep animalsHens are on the same shelf from the start, for 150 gold. The others open as your Rancher level grows: Duck at Rancher level 3 (200 gold); Goat at Rancher level 5 (300 gold); Sheep at Rancher level 6 (250 gold); Dairy Cow at Rancher level 8 (450 gold); Pig at Rancher level 10 (350 gold). Place them where they can reach a Hay Rack Feeder and a Water Trough: fences and gates make a pen, and on open ground an animal stays near where you put it.
  7. Feed and waterClick the feeder and choose Fill, then pick a feed: Chicken Feed for hens and ducks, a Hay Bale for cows, goats and sheep, Pig Feed for pigs, or crops you grew, like corn, wheat, potatoes and pumpkins. Click the trough and choose Fill with water. Each fill lasts a day and a half.
  8. CollectWhile they have food and water, a hen lays a Brown Egg a day, a duck lays a Duck Egg every 36 hours, a goat gives Goat Milk a day, a sheep grows Wool every 4 days, a cow gives Fresh Milk every 20 hours and a pig digs up a Truffle every 3 days. Click an animal and choose Collect eggs, Milk, Shear or Dig up truffles, or collect every egg at the Nesting Boxes and milk every cow and goat at the Cattle Bay. The Market buys them with your crops.
  9. Mind your energySowing, watering, harvesting, feeding and collecting each take a little energy. It comes back by itself, 100 an hour, and every meal you eat gives 20 back. Your energy shows in every farm panel.

Good to know

  • Strawberries and tomatoes and blueberries and grapes give three pickings from one sowing.
  • Your friends can water your crops and feed your animals while you are away: open Farm and turn on Let my friends water my crops and feed my animals.
  • Higher levels open upgrades: Fertiliser at Farmer level 10 (one more of a crop a tile), the Copper Watering Can and Golden Watering Can at Farmer levels 8 and 20 (watering takes less energy), and the Golden Feeder at Rancher level 12 (it holds three days of feed).
  • A crop that never went thirsty gives gold star produce, and so does an animal never left hungry or thirsty. Gold star produce sells for half again.
  • Whatever the Market does not buy today stays in your bag. It buys again at midnight, FreeWorlds Time.

FAQ

Good to know

Do my crops grow while I am offline?

Yes. A crop grows in real time while it has water, whether you are in World or not.

What happens if I forget to water?

The crop stops growing. Water it within a day and it carries on; after that it withers and you can clear the bed and sow again.

Why can I not keep working?

Farm work takes energy. Rest a while (it comes back 100 an hour) or eat something, and carry on.

Do animals die if I forget to feed them?

No. An animal left without food or water stops giving anything and looks hungry, then thin and sad, until somebody feeds it again.
