What's new

The Hoop Duel is a real arcade basketball machine you can put in your space: two lanes side by side, a ramp that rolls every ball back to you, nets on both sides and a scoreboard that lights up as the balls drop.

Step up to a lane and the machine fills your screen, seen from the throw line where you stand. Drag up and let go: how far you pull sets the power, and a pull to the side aims. Press the eye to play in the room itself instead. Everybody in the room sees your ball fly, hit the rim and drop through the net, and the scoreboard on the machine counts for all to see. You hear it too: the clang off the rim, the swish of a clean one, the ball rolling back down the ramp, and the buzzer at the end.

Play on your own against the clock, or take on whoever is on the other lane in a 1v1: one clock for both of you, and the most points wins.

Step by step

How it works

  1. Get the machineThe Hoop Duel is in the Shop under New In, and under Fun and then Games. Place it in your space with room in front of it for two players.
The Hoop Duel standing in a member's home in FreeWorlds, its scoreboard lit.
The Hoop Duel in a home.
  2. Step up to a laneClick the machine and choose Play lane 1 or Play lane 2. Your avatar walks up to the throw line and the game fills the screen.
  3. ShootPress Play on your own, wait for the countdown, then drag up and let go. A basket is 2, a swish (nothing but net) 3. Make 3 in a row and you are on fire: every basket after that counts twice until one misses.
A 1v1 on the Hoop Duel in FreeWorlds: two balls in the air and both scores on the board.
A 1v1, both lanes at once.
  4. Play a 1v1When somebody is on the other lane, press Duel. Once they take it, a countdown starts for both of you and the most points at the buzzer wins.

Good to know

  • Reach 50 points on your own before the buzzer for 15 more seconds.
  • A ball that drops into the other lane's hoop counts for that lane, so aim carefully in a 1v1.
  • The leaderboard is one board for every Hoop Duel in FreeWorlds, all time and this week, with the 1v1 ratings beside it. The arcade machines' high scores are one board per game across FreeWorlds too.
