The lily pond
Ducks on the water, birds in the trees
The park is alive. Mallards paddle round the lily pond and dive for food, a mother duck leads her ducklings in a line, pigeons peck about the fountain and flutter off when you walk up, robins and blue tits sing in the blossom trees, squirrels scamper across the lawns and butterflies drift over the flower beds.
Everyone in the park sees the same birds in the same places, and you hear them where they are: the birdsong, the fountain's water as you pass it, a quack from the pond. A wooden pier runs out over the water, with a bench for two at its end.

Somewhere to sit for two
Behind the promenade is a rose garden with a white gazebo and a bench under a rose arbor. The grove has a swing seat and a hammock, and the picnic lawn has tables and blankets in the sun and a campfire ringed with logs under the trees.
